Overview
This guide installs the CaraOne desktop client on an editor workstation, plus the optional Adobe Premiere Pro integration. The client connects over the network to your CaraOne server (the 2U appliance) and is compatible with the 1.4 backend. Client builds are updated periodically — always use the latest installer provided by Scale Logic support.
Before you start: network ports
The workstation must be able to reach the CaraOne server on these ports:
| Port | Purpose |
|---|---|
| 8080 | Client communication |
| 9090 | CaraOne REST / core service |
| 3000 | Required only if using the Adobe Premiere integration |
The workstation also needs the Proxy and Thumbnail folders mounted, in addition to the high-res storage.
Windows
- Get the client installer from the download link provided by Scale Logic support.
- Unzip it, remove any older version, then launch the installer (e.g.
CaraOne_1.4.733.xxxxxxx_Win64.exeor later). - If Windows SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway.
- Follow the Setup Wizard, choose an install folder (default
C:\Program Files\ObviousFuture\CaraOne), and select components. Enable the Premiere Pro integration only if you use Premiere (skip it for Avid). - Optionally add a desktop shortcut, finish, then contact Scale Logic support to complete configuration.
macOS
- Get the macOS installer (
.pkg/.dmg, e.g.CaraOne_macos_v1_4_720.xxxxxxx.dmgor later) from the link provided by support. - Because the client is not yet code-signed for Mac, allow it via System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
- Run the installer and select components — enable the Premiere Pro integration only if you use Premiere (not needed for Avid). An admin account and basic Terminal access are required.
- Contact Scale Logic support to complete configuration.
After installation
Your CaraOne server is pre-configured by Scale Logic, so the client only needs to point at it, with the required ports open and storage mounted. For the Premiere plugin itself, see the Adobe Premiere plugin article.
