19.5 Volume Management Screen

The Volume Management section allows you to view and manage tape volumes in the SF Archive system.

  • Tape Volumes are added Automatically if a drive is found on the SCSI bus.
  • Tape Volumes can be added manually by running the NxScsi command. 
    • /usr/share/SFS/bin/NxScsi/NxScsi
  • Tape Volume Details
    • Barcode:
      • Barcodes are automatically scanned in
    • Group: 
      • These are Groups of Tape Volumes
    • Size in (Gb)
    • % Left
      • This is how much space is left on a individual Tape Volume by percentage.
    • (Gb) left
    • State:
      • Tells if an Individual Tape Volume is Enabled/Disabled
      • You are able to manually change this.
    • Locked By:
    • In Changer:
      • This tells the user which Change the Tape Volume is physically located in.
    • Media Type:
      • This tells the user which generation of Tape the individual Tape Volume is.
    • System Type:
      • This tells the user which System wrote the content. 
        • SFSArchive
        • FlashNet etc.
      • Note - SFS Archive can read Tapes Natively written by its competitors such as 
        • LTFS
        • AXF
        • TAR
        • UDF
        • FlashNet
        • Kumulate
        • BlackPearl
        • Tedial
    • Details:
      • This gives a Log
    • Format:
      • This allows you to format a Tape Volume.
      • You can add a Tape Volume to a Group unformatted and SFS will format it on 1st use.

  • Example Color-coded status Above
    • Yellow: Formatted - you can tell by the Size. It's an irregular size.
    • Green: Unformatted - You can tell by the default size of 1500.

 

Formatting Considerations

  • LTO-9 tapes: Formatting can take over an hour
  • Recommendation: Pre-formatting before adding to a group

  • Tape Volume Searches
    • SFArchive gives functionality to search for Tape Volume information and sort it.

Example: Barcodes
