13.2 Why LTFS is Ideal for SF Archive and LTO Tapes:

SF Archive and SF Migrate write in LTFS format. LTFS transforms LTO tapes into user-friendly, portable storage media. It enables straightforward file access, making it easy to write, read, and share data across different systems and platforms. This is especially valuable for SF Archive, as it ensures long-term data preservation while maintaining accessibility and simplicity. LTFS also supports cross-platform compatibility, so tapes written on one system can be read on another, provided both support LTFS. This flexibility, combined with the reliability and cost-effectiveness of LTO tapes, makes LTFS a great choice for writing and managing archival data in SF Archive workflows. When SF Archive or SF Migrate mounts the LTO tape, it gets mounted as a local drive on the server itself. This allows the user to go into the drive manually if the need arises, although this is highly unlikely.
