13.1 What is LTFS and Why Use It for LTO Tapes:

Linear Tape File System (LTFS) is an open standard that allows data stored on LTO (Linear Tape-Open) tapes to be accessed and managed much like files on a regular disk drive. With LTFS, each tape is formatted with its own file system, making it possible to browse, drag-and-drop, and manage files directly on the tape using a standard file manager, without the need for specialized backup or archive software.
