Rack Mounting and Installing an NX/ZX Series JBOD Expansion Chassis
Before beginning, ensure the JBOD model you're installing matches your intended configuration. Chassis size will vary:
2U for 12-bay
4U for 24, 36, 44, or 60-bay
1. Prepare Rack Space
Secure the appropriate amount of rack space in a standard 19” rack with square holes. Install rails and mount the JBOD chassis securely.
2. Power Requirements
Ensure proper power is available for both redundant power supplies. Plug each PSU into independent power circuits for best practice.
3. Ethernet Cabling (Management)
Connect a single Ethernet cable to the IPMI port on the rear of the JBOD. Only one is needed per chassis for out-of-band management access.
4. Drive Installation
Insert drives into any available slots. There is no required slot order for initial installation. Fully seat each drive.
5. SAS Cabling
NX Series: Connect one SAS cable to the left SAS port (when facing the rear of the chassis). Connect the other end to the NX system.
ZX Series: Connect two SAS cables for MPIO—typically from an upstream JBOD or ZX head node.
6. Power On
Once drives and cables are in place, power on the JBOD. The system will initialize the hardware automatically.
7. System Recognition
From the NX or ZX management GUI, perform a rescan to detect the newly attached JBOD and confirm visibility of all installed drives.
8. Storage Integration
