How to import an AAF sequence in Autodesk Flame

Simple workflow using default import options:

Launch Flame, select the desired project or create a new one.

From the Timeline tab, drag and drop the AAF file from the operating system file browser directly into Flame's Media Panel, in a chosen Library. This will import the AAF file using the default options, such as automatically linking to associated media and saving source media separately. From there you can simply select the clip in the Library and Flame’s player view to play back your sequence.

Advanced workflow using custom import options:

After launching Flame, go to the MediaHub tab, browse to the location of the AAF file using the file browser and select the file's thumbnail.

By default, the sequence is imported at the resolution and bit depth of the project. The General tab contains controls allowing you to modify the resolution. More advanced options are available in the AAF & XML import tab, where you can select media linking behavior, segment handles, and much more.

Once the desired options are set*, drag and drop the file from the MediaHub browser to a Library in the Media Panel. To view the sequence, select the Timeline Tab, open the Player view, select the sequence in the Library, and press Play.

 * AAF files loaded without associated media can be relinked to the desired clips in Flame’s Conform tab. Please consult the official product documentation for step-by-step instructions.
