Getting started with your new RAP server

Before using this guide, please follow all physical installation instructions provided by the tech in your installation call, or in the box with your RAP server. Keep in mind that some of the steps below may have been completed during your pre-installation call with a Scale Logic technician, or during your installation itself. Note: If you are accessing this guide via our knowledge base, follow the links in each step by clicking on the article title to access the relevant article. Links may not be displayed in blue until you hover over them.
  1. Network settings - Set IP, Subnet, DNS, Gateway to establish on the LAN (These can be shipped on the server to ease installation)
  2. Set Firewall - port :443
    1. Discuss the firewall port 443 but they could change that if their IT wanted to some other port dictated.
    2. IT would need to create the port rule.  Out of scope for Scale Logic
  3. Public DNS Entry for IP address
    1. Public DNS - changes the IP address like 172.16.83.43 to “rap.mycompany.com”
    2. Their IT needs to set this as Scale logic cannot create the public DNS entry but we will edit /etc/rap/php/config.cfg add once established to the config file in the RAP server and test that "rap.mycompany.com works.
  4. TLS Certificate to ensure HTTPS
    1. Scale Logic includes a script that will work with free “Let’s Encrypt” but should only be used for testing and not for production systems.
    2. The customer should use a TLS Cert provider like "Go Daddy", DigiCert, or Symantec for example to get the TLS Cert.  Purchasing the cert is out of scope for Scale Logic
    3. Scale Logic will install a purchased cert on the server into /etc/pki/tls/certs and the private key into /etc/pki/tls/private
  5. Email setup
    1. Use an email like rap@mycompany.com to send share links etc to remote users
    2. Email will be tested by creating a first user in the RAP - RAP will send an email to any new users for them to register
  6. Mount the storage - Scale Logic
    1. Determine the SMB service account username and password
    2. Connect to the SMB storage in RAP storage setup
  7. Make local users or connect to AD/LDAP
    1. Verify user access in the webGUI by impersonating or logging in as a standard user
  8. Install sync client on remote user machines
    1. Create sync directory and authenticate to the server
    2. Begin syncing files
  9. Verify functionality and push to production
    1. With Scale Logic's help, create a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the entire staff.  This ensures all workflow gets standardized for your workflow.
    2. Record the training with Scale Logic so training of new employees or checking back on the material covered is easy and accessible.
